Decorating On A Budget

If you want to redecorate your home but you don’t want to spend a lot of money on your decorations you may need a few tips to get your home redecorated for less.

Decorating doesn't have to cost a lot of money but sometimes you have to be creative and use some of the things you already have to make the old look like new. If curtains or draperies are replaced in one room, use the ones you had to make shorter curtains or pillow cushion covers for another room. You don't have to sew to do this. Fabric glue or a glue gun can help anyone with a craft project.

Shopping at discount or thrift stores can sometime provide all that is needed to make the difference you were looking for in your room. You can search for accent pieces and just by adding new pillows, a new modern area rug, draperies or curtains will give the room more character and the fresh new look will make everyone believe you spent a fortune on your new look.

Color dying the draperies or curtains will save a lot of money and the room will take on a new look. Look at matching the color to your upholstery or area rugs, if you have a rug in a green color dye a similar shade of green or a contrasting color like brown.

Painting the room a different color or trying some of the new techniques in adding a second color to the base coat can make the room brighter or more peaceful depending on the colors you choose. Simply changing the color of the room can make a difference.

Yard sales or auctions are a great place to find treasures you weren't even looking for. Consider buying a used piece of furniture and planning your room decor around this piece. Sometimes a few scuffs can be buffed away and it is amazing how a piece of furniture that looks dull and lifeless can come alive with just a coat of paint or you can even try decoupage for an added attraction to the piece. You can find items at these two locations that is just what you are looking for and never had the money to buy the item new. Most anything can be found at a yard sale or auction, furniture, household items, pillows, rugs, lamps, the list goes on and on.

Try trading out with friends that want to do the same as you do in decorating. You can exchange furniture piece, draperies, area rugs, throw pillows, etc.. Mixing and matching this way can be a lot of fun and very creative. A group of friends or family members can do each others decorating. One day you all can do your living room, the next day you can do someone else's together and so on. This will save you money in having a professional do it and you can spend time together and have fun.

Decorating on a budget can be very inexpensive if you shop at discount stores, online, thrift shops, auctions, and yard sales or exchanging items with one another and you can have fun doing it. There is intrigue in searching for something you didn't know you were wanting until you find it.
